About our cause
Bluevale Community Club, formerly known as Bluevale Boxing Club, had been delivering boxing and associated exercise classes since November 2019 from Bluevale Neighbourhood Centre, Haghill. Our organisation operates in one of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland according to the Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation with high concentrations of low income, high unemployment, poor educational attainment, poor health and drugs and alcohol abuse.
The clubs current facility is used for our multi-purpose sports and community work, and our main activities include an over 35's and children's football club, adult and children's boxing clubs, drama club and line dancing classes. We have also now delivered over 700 food parcels to those in need during the pandemic. We also run children's activities and programmes, especially during school holidays. All children's activities are aimed towards children and young people aged 5 to 18. During the summer holidays our facility has been at full capacity during daytime hours running a summer programme for age group 5-12, summer club age 8+, drama class age 5-16 and youth groups age 10+.
We also provide paid positions to 4 local young people while they carry out a vocational qualification. We are looking to extend this offer to more volunteers in the next few months. These roles are created to bring opportunity. One of the current roles is filled by a young person whose parents are in active addiction and who came to us habitually using alcohol and drugs. We aim in future to extend these opportunities to adults who have experienced addiction and/or family members of those affected by drug and alcohol issues.
We have also now begun our Bluevale Recovery drop in at Haghill Community Hall every Monday. This has been well attended with around 15 attendees all either in recovery, seeking recovery or who just want to attend for some food and fellowship. We have recently ran a consultation on this group and are looking to both publish and implement these suggestions in the near future. It is our hope to increase the frequency of this recovery drop in dependent on future funding.
Within the next year we look to make our current facility just sports and be a parter orginisation within a community facility in Haghill which is rated SIMD 2nd poorest area in Scotland. Both facilities are only one mile from each other and will allow us to provide much needed outreach and promote both youth programmes in conjunction with our sports improving mental and physical health as well as social cohesion in the local area. Also bringing both areas which there have been known territorial issues in the past closer together.
The community facility will offer us a chance to add to our much needed services with Bluevale, brining in services such as a homework club and supper club to help increase education and reduce food poverty in the local area. As well as this we will start a youth club engaging with local young people in the local area to introduce a safe welcoming environment for young people to attend after school.
In addition to this we would like to add extra days to our recovery club offering more services partnering with other organisations to try tackle addiction issues in the local area.
The above mentioned will not only provide much needed services in the area but provide fantastic volunteer and employment opportunities locally. With the club sourcing funds to employ more young people to gain valuable work experience and qualifications.
